That all makes sense, and i basically agree with what you’re saying. But, there are 2 things I’d like to point out.

First, all of that grand plan is worthless if we don’t find a qb to lead the team. Even if the rest of he team is good, we’ll be mired in a 7-9 wasteland that has consumed Houston for years. The FO has not given the qb the priority it deserves, and that’s been my biggest complaint about them. Now, Kizer has started to play a little better and that’s promising, but he’ll need to improve more through the last 7 games to prove he’s the future at the position.

Second thought: if they’re only concerned about 2019, what’s MY incentive to care about this team? i can appreciate the long approach to team building, but in the process, you’re also shitting on your players and fans for 3 years.

    I agree.

I agree here too. I think that’s likely the reason the owner stepped in around the trade deadline.
I’d like to add a 3rd concern; how do we know if we have the right coach? If you give him shit players for 3 years then how do you evaluate him?

If there’s one thing the Browns have proven over the past decade, it’s that the notion of cleaning house to play the long game is complete nonsense.

You keep your quality players, and you build around them. You don’t let them walk until you either A) cannot afford them because you are currently up against the cap or B) have a younger player out perform them.

Gipson and Haden would certainly have stabilized our defense this year. McCown could have provided great leadership and advice for our young QBs, and could have started the year to help our young receivers learn their routes, have the team lined up and learn basic NFL cadences, and the rest of the team learn the playbook.

Don’t get me started on Mack.

We could have all of those players and still be well under the cap, and likely still be one of the youngest teams in the league. And I honestly think we’d have a shot at being 4-5 instead of 0-9.

I totally agree with that MPD. The ones that really stick out are losing Haden basically on the eve of the season and letting the only QB on our roster who has ever won an NFL game go. But it’s not just them, we’re missing the entire ‘middle class’ of NFL players, guys in year 4-6. We’ve got like 3 of them! Those guys are the meat and potatoes of most NFL rosters.

Again that only happens if the front office doesn’t give 2 shits what happens in 2017.

To fill or be filled is a tough analysis Ice. Most players have played up and down this season and I am not convinced one way or another that guys are the correct fill or future.

One thing I think us a Browns fans can agree on we really need a qb. Yes, Kizer showed some highlights on sunday, but we need a guy who stand back there and get it done. once kessler came into the game, it was over….they blitz, we lost.

    Hue Jackson is a loser.

The long view is this – if you are desiging a team to “win later” ass opposed to now, you are doing it wrong. You are telling your draft picks “don’t sign with us if you expect to win.”

They’ve been great at ammassing picks, but dismal in utilizing those picks. Anyone that picks Peppers and Kizer in the same draft has no clue what they are doing.

As an FYI Peppers is averaging 5.6 yards per PR and that’s where they raved about this bust.

The long view doesn’t work without winning now. 1-25 over the last 26 games. Let that sink in. The Ramz are the 2nd youngest team in the NFL. youth is not an excuse.

The premise of buidling through the draft is absolutely correct, their execution of it has been terrible.

    There is no long view.

I want to win this week. Then I want to win again next week.

until these clowns can do those 2 things first, any and all plans after are bullshit, moot points, and irrelevant.

    There is no long view.

I’m not disagreeing with any of you guys. I’m not saying I’m for their strategy, I’m just trying to understand it.

Then the long view is this. It’s time the team is built the right way. Through the draft. That’s their goal. They aren’t purposefully forgoing wins. They just keep skipping QBs to reach on bums.

Their long view is correct. The issue is execution.

While against Detroit (?) The call to go deep was “correct” as Treggs was wide open. Kessler’s execution was garbage.

If the nerds are still in charge, we need to hope they learned from their mistakes. The only acceptable pick next year first overall is a QB.

    Freedom!!!
