Of course, shitsburgh based pft.com is reporting it as the Browns renegotiating the deal, but the reality is, it’s a pay cut.

Vernon went from 15.25 mil not guaranteed to 7 mil signing bonus, 3.75 base salary, 250k roster or workout bonus, and 2 mil in incentives. Total he can make is down to 13 mil.

So, he took a pay cut to stay on the Browns. Not often you see that happen.

He also has a no tag clause for next season.

So, he’s betting on himself to have a big year, and the Browns are hoping he can have a big year and cash in somewhere else and get a compensatory pick in the process.

    Solid move in my book.

That tells me that we aren’t signing any major DE’s between now and the start of the season.

Are there any “major” DE’s available besides Clowney?

I don’t think we’re signing him because he doesn’t want to sign here. I can’t think of another DE that this deal would impact

Just like “there’s no chance Jamie Gillan makes this team”?

More money to pay Clowney now. Damn Ice, read the room.

This means Clowney can’t use the Browns to entice another team to make a better offer.

If healthy, Vernon is pretty good and will help. Just have to hope he stays healthy.

I also read part of the renegotiation is that they can’t franchise him next year.

I found that part kind of amusing. I’m sure Berry really struggles making that concession.
