Erving is often listed as a guard, but he’s experienced playing positions all across the offensive line. He’s an excellent center so he’s good insurance for the loss of Alex Mack. This coming year though he’ll beat out either Greco or Schwartz to start. The Browns have upgraded both the offensive and defensive line with 2 big bodies. The Browns are serious about being able to control the line of scrimmage.
I have to admit, this one was a bit of a surprise. I’ve read that he’s a great athlete with impeccable character and solid fundamentals; is he strictly an interior guy, or can play right tackle? As much as it’s a great idea to hedge your bets in case Mack walks, we should also be working our tails off to keep him, and should be planning to do that long term.

@Soup hates this pick, so naturally I have to love it. It is so strange though that Soup would hate us taking an o-lineman in the 1st round…
This guy can play any position on the line except LT. I guarantee that Erving will beat out either Schwartz or Greco. Ideally maybe Erving takes over at RT and Greco and Schwartz can battle it out over RG. Soup, doesn’t that make you happy? With one pick we’ve improved two positions on our O-line!
I don’t hate the pick or the player. I just would’ve gone Dupree and G or Max Williams in round 2.

I would have rather have a WR that was on the board at the time but I do like the fact that Farmer is building an OL that has the potential to be great.

Everyone is begging for WR….but we do not even have a QB who can throw the ball. Build on the interior and the defense, so when we get our man, WR will be begging to come here 🙂
Seriously, I think we will go after an elite guy next year. Sadly, this is a rebuild year. We signed two free agents who can give us some production and we can start building from there.

I just don’t want our number 1 WR and the QB to both be rookies in the same year. Too much of a learning curve for both.
