    What a bummer…

I think we bought into the hype a little bit (i know that seems crazy because there shouldnt have been much hype).. Came out flat and got stomped from the start.

We really need to get better at tackling, or we’re going to end up 4-11-1 or worse. Our best linebacker, Schobert, leads the league in missed tackles… I don’t know whether I’m more disappointed in Kirksey or Collins… Kirksey looks like he took the whole offseason off… Collins looks like he’s taking the whole season off again (he has had a few moments, but he’s so lazy sometimes)… When he got punked by Rivers on the 26th end-around they ran in a row, I was about ready to turn it off. Wouldn’t have thought it possible, but Burgess has taken a step back this year… Might need to get another linebacker in here. We could use Kendricks right now.. These guys have done it before though, I’m still holding out hope Kirksey and/or Collins can get it together.

The secondary didn’t play as bad as it looked either; I still love that group. Peppers has played pretty well all year but he was really starting to get going before yesterday, and Randall is playing like a pro bowl safety. And those 2 are the only guys on our team who can tackle. Peppers had a bad game in coverage yesterday… He was definitely responsible on several big throws.. But at least he hits.

Chris Hubbard was f_cking garbage again, I had a feeling he was a bad idea in the offseason but I got talked into it.. Hoping we have someone to make a change with there soon.. Harrison is just as bad, but at least you can see the potential there. They might be even worse in the run game… Has to be the worst 2 starting OT’s in the league, except maybe Houston. We probably need to start scheming around them both.

Baker Mayfield didn’t seem like his usual self, but the OL play was especially bad this week. Chargers were in his face a few times early and he couldn’t figure them out. Hopefully he’ll bounce back strong next week.

I’ll give them a pass this week if they come out strong next week. It’s still early and they’re still a hell of a lot more interesting than the last couple years.

I voted Rosen. I got my hands on some coach tapes and put in a little time recently.

I watched Rosen vs USC again, A&M and Stanford. He really does throw a nice ball. Looks ready.

I watched Darnold vs both UCLA and Ohio State again and he’s growing on me.

I’ve re-watched just about all of Mayfield’s games at this point and I still love him. Wouldn’t be mad if we took him #1.

Haven’t found much Josh Allen tape, but I could get excited about any of the other 3.

Fuller was #1 on Bleacher Report’s rankings of the top slot defenders in 2017:

    http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2754253-nfl1000-ranking-the-top-slot-defenders-of-2017-season

Our guy Briean Boddy-Calhoun was #6 on the list, and the BR writers/scouts in the article weren’t happy with the way Greg Williams used him.

Guess the deal can’t be totally completed until after March. Still, after his comments earlier today, it wasn’t looking too good anyways.
Welp, who’s gonna jump on the Cousins short bus?

If Cousins is an RG3/Mike Glennon type deal I’m all for it as long as we go QB #1. All in on Cousins? Hell no.

I don’t think that’s a realistic possibility… I’d be all about it, but I think he’s going to get a nice, fat, long, guaranteed deal. I’d do it either way, but I think it’s going to be really tough/unlikely for us to sign Cousins.. even more so with Smith off the market.

Soup.. I’m telling you this because I love you…

You need to get out of Pittsburgh. I’m worried that next time I see you, you’ll be waving a terrible towel next to your brand new, 400 pound Pennsyltucky wife.

    Get out of there, ASAP

I can say that something like this should have happened from the start though, or at least last season, that we should have had an OC calling plays. It definitely shows an arrogant side of Hue to continue to call plays and manage game situations after winning one fucking game. Still, it shows that he’s learned from the experience.

Hue addressed that in a presser around week 12. He said he’s not gonna hire an OC for this (2017) season knowing the challenges the offense would have. It wouldn’t be fair to that OC, because whoever it was they’d get blamed for the offense and get ridden out of town on a rail. He actually said something to that effect during the season. Kinda the opposite of arrogant if it’s the truth.

Come on though, seriously? If it’s the truth?

I’ve been using that same quote all year to show how much of a douche bag Hue Jackson is.

I didn’t think anybody bought that line of BS….

No that’s not your neighborhood shoe store, that’s Colin Kaepernick’s ‘shoe room’. It’s clear there are 2 things important to him; his protest, and his shoes.
Why isn’t RG3 in this discussion? He’s almost the same talent who had almost the same success, just didn’t quit after he was relegated to being a backup and he didn’t kneel. Why aren’t we talking about Johnny 8-ball? He has loads of unrealized talent too.
Let’s talk about actual NFL quarterbacks, not guys who have no chance of coming here.

Where does he put the left shoes? What the fuck?

I didn’t love him as a prospect, and wouldn’t have drafted him at 2 (or wherever it was), but I did think he had a chance to be pretty good. I thought his rookie year was highly overrated, but he looked pretty great this season. What Foles has done has definitely made it a little more confusing, but I still think Wentz is really good. If we could trade the #1 pick for Wentz, I’d do it.

I’m sure it’s possible that most of you have already seen this article, written a few days after this thread, but if not:

    https://www.si.com/nfl/2018/01/23/cleveland-browns-hue-jackson-head-coach

It’s an article written by Joe Thomas about why the browns made the right decision in retaining Hue Jackson. To me, this makes it sound like Joe will be back.

I was looking into the backgrounds of our front office guys today, and it was incredible to me how many of our personnel guys have no experience in the NFL other than with the worst franchise in the league.

The 4 semi-recent hires that I think most of us know about do have varying degrees of experience around the league. Ryan Grigson, Andrew Berry, Highsmith and Ken Kovash. Kovash is the analytics guy who Sashi got some shit for promoting to VP / Player Personnel. He was in Dallas for 2 years. After that, it gets kinda scary to me…

The following 4 guys were all promoted to those positions after 5-10 years as a Browns scout:

    1. Director of Player Personnel Chisom Opara
    2. Director of College Scouting Bobby Vega
    3. Director of Pro Scouting Dan Saganey
    4. Director of Scouting Mike Cetta

What I’m trying to understand is what the f_ these guys could have done in 2000-2012ish to get promoted? Are they all claiming Joe Thomas?

Maybe the “Director” title just means they’re good at directing stuff, but don’t have to do any scouting anymore?

56% completion in college. He’s worse version of Kizer.

Opinion based on one single stat without watching him play?
    I’m sold.

For what it’s worth, using Soup’s method for determining a QB prospect’s future success would have been more successful than whatever the f_ the Browns have been doing, at least going back to 2010..

We probably still would have drafted Brandon Weeden over Luck and Wilson… And Johnny Manziel over Bridgewater and Mariota…. And Definitely Cody Kessler over Goff and Wentz (those two were almost as bad as Kizer!)…

But at least we would have finally gotten it right this year with Trubisky..

    Brandon Weeden: 72%
    Colt McCoy: 70%
    Johnny Manziel: 70%
    Cody Kessler: 68%
    Teddy Bridgewater: 68%
    Marcus Mariota: 68%
    Mitch Trubisky: 68%
    A.J. McCarron: 67%
    Deshaun Watson: 67%
    Robert Griffin: 67%
    Andrew Luck: 67%
    Blake Bortles: 66%
    Derek Carr: 66%
    Patrick Mahomes: 64%
    Carson Wentz: 63%
    Jared Goff: 62%
    Jimmy Garoppolo: 62%
    DeShone Kizer: 61%
    Russell Wilson: 61%

I should preface this by saying that I’m no “Mike Holmgren” or “Hue Jackson” QB guru… But I’ve been right sometimes.

If I had to pick one of the two I’d pick Rosen. Darnold scares me, I just really don’t see it with him.

If anyone took the time to read my novel on QB winning % in college translating to the NFL success, you’ll know that I don’t feel great about Rosen, either. But he definitely “looks the part” more than Darnold does.

My favorite QB prospects in this draft are 1.) Drew Lock from Missouri and 2.) Mayfield.

I really like Lock, I kind of like Mayfield and Rosen, and I understand the Allen buzz. When I watch Darnold, I feel like I’m missing something…

This guy has maybe the coolest first sentence of a wikipedia page ever:

“Alonzo Walter Highsmith, Sr. (born February 26, 1965) is a former American football fullback and professional boxer, who played in the National Football League (NFL) for the Houston Oilers, Dallas Cowboys, and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers”

27-1-2 as a pro boxer with 23 knockouts.

Our defense got SIGNFICANTLY worse when Ogbah, Meder, and Collins went down for the year.

Agree with this, we also only got about a half year out of Garrett…

I can’t say I’m Greg Williams’ biggest fan, but I don’t think he’s the most glaring problem with our coaching staff.

    …(Hue Jackson)

The two things I notice about our offense that have stayed pretty consistent from 2016 through 2017:

    1. Our QB play is really, really bad – regardless of who’s back there.
    2. Hue Jackson puts a TON of faith in our QB play in key situations.

It’s amazing to me how despite the fact that he shits on his QB in every post-game presser and tries his best to shift the blame away from himself, Hue calls the game like he has Tom Brady back there.
