If not for Watson and his 4-1 record as a starter including the great game against Baltimore and we probably aren’t in the playoffs.
Watson was playing his best in both games he was injured. I guess some people are never going to give him the credit he deserves.
Before saying you wouldn’t care if the Browns traded Watson, take a look at what it would do to the salary cap and how many players (starters) that would have to be cut. It isn’t going to happen.
December 12, 2023 at 2:48 pm #21881BrownsFan4LifeParticipantFlacco is definitely our best shot to win, not only in the regular season but in the playoffs if we get it.
I am glad Stefanksi realized that.
While I still do not like Stefanski’s play calling, I think it it crazy that people want him fired.
The Browns are 8-5 right now in spite of all the injuries that they have had.
The follpwing is a list of major injuries that they have had. Some are out for the year. Others have missed significant time:
Watson – Starting QB
Chubb – Starting RB
Conklin – Starting RT
Jones – Backup RT (now out for the year)
Wills – Starting LT
Grant – Starting PR/KR (injured in preseason)
Ward – Starting CB (he misses four games every year)Then have had several players miss a game here or there due to injuries.
If anyone had told you about all these injuries before the season, there is not a sane person who would have ever said the Browns would currently be 8-5 and be in sole possession of the first wild card.
Like I said, I don’t like his play calling but he has to get some of this credit since he takes all the blame.
October 5, 2023 at 8:10 pm #21875BrownsFan4LifeParticipantSchwartz was definitely the right man for the job. The D looks pretty damn good when the offense doesn’t turn the ball over multiple times a game. About the only bad thing that can be said is they don’t create enough turnovers (among the worst in the entire NFL).
…………………….
Stefanski still doesn’t know how to run a proper game plan. Taking a fifth round rookie QB in this first NFL start and having him throw 7 of the first 10 plays reeks of incompetence.
While I think the play calling is absurd and I’ve seen HS coaches call better plays, I do wonder why the play designs are so inferior to other teams.

October 12, 2022 at 12:56 pm #21757BrownsFan4LifeParticipantI know the feeling well. It has been great spending time talking football with Browns enthusiasts but I wonder how many hours of my life I have suffered because of them.
Good luck.
September 13, 2022 at 11:31 am #21732BrownsFan4LifeParticipant125 of the Panthers’ 261 yards came on two plays. The 55 yarder late in the first half and the 75 yard TD with 6:02 left in the game.
The other bad part was the 7 play 64 yard FG drive by the Panthers late in the 4th quarter.
If not for the 75 yard play and the 64 yard FG drive, I would have said they played a great game.
I am not sure what changed in the second half aside from us being outcoached once again but the defense seemed to crumble under the pressure.
September 12, 2022 at 4:51 pm #21728BrownsFan4LifeParticipantThe more I read, the more I am confused as to what signifies intentional grounding.
This is what Panthers Head Coach Matt Rhule said about it:
“We just literally showed our guys two days ago a quarterback pump or mishandling a snap, can’t take more than a step back,” Rhule said after the game.Well I watched the replay and Brissett stepped back with his right foot but he never moved his left foot.
So, is it intentional grounding or not?
I actually tweeted Mike Pereira about it but never received a response. I know nothing changes but it would be nice to know if it really was or wasn’t according to NFL rules.
The roughing was ticky tac but legit. Helmet to helmet. The refs handed us the game picking up the grounding flag. That was nuts. Jacoby unquestionably committed intentional grounding.
What you’ve seen today is what Jacoby is. We need to lean a lot more on the run game.September 12, 2022 at 11:33 am #21723BrownsFan4LifeParticipantHe definitely had a few throws that if they had been made, this would have been a laugher. He didn’t turn the ball over though and was only sacked one time. I don’t remember any batted balls either. Hopefully he improves or we are in trouble.
The defense, after playing a pretty good first half (most of it), but crumbled in the second half. Giving up a 75 yard TD pass late in the game was pathetic. Then allowing Carolina to March down the field for a go ahead FG was almost as bad.
This was definitely a game that we have lost in the past, being on the other end of a bad call and losing late after blowing a lead and not being able to recover. Fortunately for us, the refs blew the intentional grounding call (how many bad calls have cost us games over the years) and gave us an opportunity for a 58 yard game winner. I will take this win but they need to work on some things for sure.
I think we should give a game ball to Brissett. He sucks so bad that Stefanski was forced to run the ball.
Goat to Cade York’s mustache. That mustache belongs on a guy trying to lure kids into his van with candy.EDITED………
Upon further review, it was definitely a roughing the passer
So the only question was the ever so slightly delayed spike.September 11, 2022 at 10:30 pm #21718BrownsFan4LifeParticipantThe roughing was ticky tac but legit. Helmet to helmet. The refs handed us the game picking up the grounding flag. That was nuts. Jacoby unquestionably committed intentional grounding.
What you’ve seen today is what Jacoby is. We need to lean a lot more on the run game.I did not see the helmet to helmet contact because I was paying more attention the the arm so I went back and watched it and there was definitely helmet to helmet contact. As far as the intentional grounding. He moved his front foot so I thought he was no longer under center when he spiked it and that should have been a penalty. At any rate, I will take it since we have been on the wrong end of some pretty horrible calls at the end of games before. It is about time we got repayed.
July 19, 2022 at 6:48 pm #21695BrownsFan4LifeParticipantI have yet to hear any evidence that he did anything wrong even though he used so many massage therapists.
While it seems fishy, that doesn’t make any of these accusations true and I prefer to deal in facts. Just because it appears that there could have been wrongdoing doesn’t make it so.July 19, 2022 at 6:38 pm #21694BrownsFan4LifeParticipantI haven’t heard of a single ounce of proof. I did read where the son of one of the accusers said his mom was complimentary of Watson until other allegations came out and the article made it seem like she was going to pay her son to keep quiet about it all.
I do not know if he is guilty of anything other than bad judgment or if he actually did commit sexual assault but I refuse to convict without evidence.
While it doesn’t look good, that doesn’t mean any of it is true aside from he used a lot of massage therapists.
Even saying all that, he could be guilty but I am not going to assume he is.May 2, 2022 at 4:15 pm #21676BrownsFan4LifeParticipantThe Cleveland Browns Waived K Chris Blewitt and K Chase McLaughlin
March 30, 2022 at 12:02 pm #21636BrownsFan4LifeParticipantIn a civil trial, a judge or jury examines the evidence to decide whether, by a “preponderance of the evidence,” (51 percent certainty) that the defendant should be held legally responsible for the damages alleged by the plaintiff.
This definitely doesn’t mean he did it or not, just that it was likely.
As far as the FBI investigating witnesses for false allegations, there is one that I know of and here is the link
I don’t know if he did it or not and regardless of what happens in any civil trial, I don’t think I ever will. I am not presuming innocence but I am also not presuming guilt.
March 23, 2022 at 11:38 am #21620BrownsFan4LifeParticipantI don’t care what he posts somewhere else, this is my stupid little sandbox and anything that happens outside of it is someone else’s problem. No one on this site is ‘vetted’ or ‘verified’. My recommendation is that everyone make up your own mind.
No such thing as news any more these days. It’s all propaganda.Exactly
March 23, 2022 at 11:15 am #21618BrownsFan4LifeParticipantThe signing bonus of is spread out over 5 years. So that is $8.993M a year against the cap for 2022. His salary for this year is $1,035M. The cap hit for this year is $10.028M according to Spotrac. After this year the cap hit will be $54.993M for 2023, 2024 and 2025.
The cap hits for Chubb, Cooper, Bitonio and Garrett and John Johnson in 2023 all go up a lot. This doesn’t include Denzel Ward who unless we trade him will be in line for a large payday too.
Starting next year things are going to get a lot more complicated. They will be restructuring a lot of contracts next year, converting some salaries into signing bonuses which will help lower the cap hits for 2024 but increase them in future years. Every good team has to do it. The one good thing is the NFL salary cap is increasing because of the new TV deal. Hopefully the Browns have a salary cap savant.
March 21, 2022 at 7:50 pm #21612BrownsFan4LifeParticipantAgree and it is a smart move. Watson is going to be suspended at some point (at least that is what I believe) so having a backup with a similar skill set is a smart move.
March 20, 2022 at 2:03 am #21608BrownsFan4LifeParticipantI think we need to stop thinking of Cooper as a replacement for Landry, he’s a replacement for OBJ. We haven’t replaced Landry yet.
Jarvis Landry’s replacement may well be Jarvis Landry. The Browns are in contact with his agents and hopefully they can work out a deal.
March 19, 2022 at 9:10 pm #21603BrownsFan4LifeParticipantSo much has happened in relation to trading for Watson. They traded Keenum for a 7th rounder. Baker is sure to be traded at some point (hope we get a decent pick for him but I am no longer thinking that it will be a first rounder based on a lot of things I’ve read.
The Browns signed Jacoby Brissett to a one year deal. I couldn’t find the financials on that one.
It is being reported that the Browns are in contact with Landry’s agents about resigning him. While his production didn’t match the $16M he was due to make, in my opinion, he put his heart and soul out there and helped change the culture. Not sure what his worth is but he may be more open to returning to the Browns with Watson at QB. The more times I read about money, the more I realize that maybe I don’t have a clue about a players worth anymore especially after the Watson contract.
Maybe they offer Clowney enough to come back since we are in a better position to win with Watson at QB.
March 19, 2022 at 8:59 pm #21602BrownsFan4LifeParticipantThe allegations definitely concern me regardless of the fact that there wasn’t enough evidence to indict him. It doesn’t mean he is innocent.
He won’t be going to jail or even to a criminal trial. He still has the civil lawsuits.
Because of his base salary the first year, when the NFL does finally suspend him, he will lose $57,000 per game. The Browns really did him a favor in that regard. This doesn’t even take into account the fully guaranteed contract.
March 19, 2022 at 8:54 pm #21601BrownsFan4LifeParticipantThanks DS. Appreciate the information. Depth is a good thing.
March 19, 2022 at 12:00 pm #21588BrownsFan4LifeParticipantI was wonder about the center so early myself. Nick Harris is young and just taking over. It isn’t like we need a guy who can start right away, unless you feel like Harris isn’t the guy, or is this a guy who could play multiple positions on the line?
March 19, 2022 at 11:57 am #21587BrownsFan4LifeParticipantAgree that we need a LB.
March 19, 2022 at 11:39 am #21586BrownsFan4LifeParticipantI am torn. A lot of allegations were made yet there isn’t enough evidence to even send it to jury. This definitely doesn’t mean nothing happened but the fact of this is none of us will ever know the complete truth.
We gave up a 2022, 2023 and 2024 first round picks. If things go well, the 2023 and 2024 first rounders will in the 20s. We also gave up a 2023 third rounder and a 2024 fourth rounder while receiving a 2024 fifth rounder. That is a hell of a lot to give up even though he is a huge upgrade. A five year $230 million fully guaranteed contract is something I never thought the Browns would do.
..
I’ve seen some people talk about the morality of it all and we each have to make our own decision about how this effects our fandom. I am not going to knock anyone for the decision they make...
In my opinion, Watson is a major upgrade. I hope it works out.Go Browns.
March 19, 2022 at 12:25 am #21575BrownsFan4LifeParticipantI would rather see him go to the NFC but it will be determined by who offers us the most. Ive read the Colts first rounder but from a lot of other things that I have seen says we will probably only get a 3rd rounder.
Will Carolina want him? Atlanta? Seattle? Colts? Dolphins? Steelers? Saints? Bears? How about the Giants who have Daniel Jones? Jones would surely hate that.
This is going to be interesting.
March 18, 2022 at 4:10 pm #21558BrownsFan4LifeParticipantWell, I remember hearing that same thing during the combine so I tend to believe it.
Also it is being reported that Watson has waived his no trade clause and is coming to Cleveland once the trade is finalized. $230M for five years.
Bye bye Baker.
March 18, 2022 at 3:05 pm #21556BrownsFan4LifeParticipantSo the Browns told Mayfield’s agents that they would be pursuing a top tier QB and that could eventually include Watson. I guess he expected to be told everything they were doing which I don’t think is necessary.
What are your thoughts? Should they have informed him they were flying to Houston? Why or why not?
March 18, 2022 at 12:21 pm #21555BrownsFan4LifeParticipantIce, take a look at their stats. They are very similar. It isn’t like anyone is comparing him to Sam Darnold.
March 17, 2022 at 3:38 pm #21553BrownsFan4LifeParticipantThere were / are twenty-two allegations and still there isn’t enough evidence to go to trial let alone get a conviction. While it doesn’t mean he isn’t guilty, it does say a lot.
I don’t really care about all the rumors flying around. It makes for a fun read and is click worthy but it doesn’t mean I believe a single one of them.
The Browns are going to try and trade for a QB and if that happens, then Mayfield will be traded. While I do think he is a good QB when healthy, I haven’t seen that fourth quarter magic from him. While he does have six fourth quarter comebacks plus one game winning drive, four of them came in 2018, his rookie year. Last year (yes I know he was injured), he was a mess in the fourth quarter. He had a lot of turnovers and made some horrendous decisions. Was that an aberration or is that who he is? Time will tell.
What this means to me is that I am not sold on Baker Mayfield being a great QB. He could still win a SB but he isn’t in the same league as the top tier QBs.
Just my opinion.
No matter what, Go Browns.
March 16, 2022 at 2:39 pm #21530BrownsFan4LifeParticipantMy best guess is that Baker will fetch at least a first rounder.
March 16, 2022 at 2:23 pm #21529BrownsFan4LifeParticipantReleasing Landry doesn’t feel good because he helped to start to change the culture even though we have had only 1 winning season in the last 4. He definitely gave it his all. Last year was a horrible year for him and the team. I wish he would have renegotiated his contract and stayed but it wasn’t meant to be. Swartz and Peoples-Jones need to step up in a big way and having a true number one receiver in Cooper should help.
Releasing Hooper is the easiest move of the off season. His production never matched his salary and Njoku is way better.
Losing Tretter was a money decision, much like Landry. In this case, Nick Harris is ready to take over and comes much cheaper.
There shouldn’t be anyone who doesn’t think Watson is an upgrade over Mayfield although Watson is going to be suspended by the NFL and my guess is that it will be 4 games. Any team trading for him needs to realize that too.
Watson wants to win and that may trump the cold weather. The Browns are positioned to do that. If Watson wasn’t at all interested, he could have just said no to meeting with the Browns.
While giving up 3 first rounders and paying him $35M a year seems like a lot, it is really 2 first rounders and Mayfield (who Houston reportedly doesn’t want but will still fetch a first rounder from another team).
In the even that the Browns don’t acquire Watson, is it possible for Mayfield to stay with the Browns after all this. Sure it is possible but IMO unlikely. The Browns would then trade him for a first rounder and in the draft they would be able to draft a rookie QB and rookie WR (if they choose to do so).
I wouldn’t call it a shit show and I am not sure how it could have been handled any better.
March 16, 2022 at 2:01 pm #21528BrownsFan4LifeParticipantHarris is ready to take over and this saves cap space. These things need to be done since the Browns have several players set to make more money in 2023.
March 16, 2022 at 1:57 pm #21527BrownsFan4LifeParticipantAmari Cooper is a definite upgrade from Landry. This move is a no brainer. Paying 4 million more for Cooper was an easy decision.
I liked Landry and he helped change the culture of the team but he isn’t worth 16 million a year. He had a bad season last year. He played through some injuries but dropped passes in key moments (much like all the receivers).
Now we just have to wonder who will be throwing him the ball.
January 29, 2022 at 8:22 pm #21499BrownsFan4LifeParticipantAn extra 3rd round pick in back to back years is definitely a nice haul. The fact that you can trade these picks make them even more worthwhile.
January 20, 2022 at 7:55 pm #21494BrownsFan4LifeParticipantApparently he doesn’t remember any of it or so says his mentor and former HS Coach.
December 29, 2021 at 1:17 pm #21439BrownsFan4LifeParticipantInjuries are a huge problem. The sling he is wearing really hinders his throwing. I think it was hesselbeck who talked about it and said he couldnt get the ball to where he wanted and wouldn’t wear it. He also said if he can’t throw with it off then he shouldn’t be playing.
That boils down to coaching which we all know is a problem this year. Even with everything happening, we still have a chance to win the division.
I agree that we didn’t need to extend him this year because of the 5th year option. Next year when he is fully healthy will be more telling.December 5, 2021 at 11:26 pm #21401BrownsFan4LifeParticipantDefinitely not a time to be firing Stefanski. That would be stupid. It has been a rough year. Some play alls are bad and a lot of pre snap penalties but there has also been good play calls and dropped passes. A coach isn’t going to be perfect and there are times I think some expect him to be.
December 5, 2021 at 11:24 pm #21400BrownsFan4LifeParticipantThe penalties that drive me nuts are the pre snap penalties and that is definitely coachable but so far it hasn’t improved as the year has gone on.
We aren’t a team that can make a ton of mistakes and win. We will be adding more talent next year and in theory, the schedule should be easier unless we win out. LOL.
December 5, 2021 at 11:21 pm #21398BrownsFan4LifeParticipantThe team has had a lot of injuries.
This is Bakers 4th year. He is under contract for next year and we can franchise him after that if necessary. There is no reason to give up on him under these conditions.
Tough seasons happen. Don’t blow it all up and start over. The great teams don’t do that, they get through it and are better for it.November 24, 2021 at 3:10 pm #21356BrownsFan4LifeParticipantThe defense isn’t that good and I do think Joe Woods needs fired. The 3rd down defense is one of the worst in the NFL. While they did a pretty good job on Sunday against Detroit by holding them to 10 points, there was a first time starter for the Lions and Joe Woods refused to blitz for much of the game or we might have been able to shut them out.
The offense is as bad on 3rd down as the defense. The lack of discipline on the team goes directly in Stefanski’s lap. While I am not ready to give up on Stefanski, he needs to straighten this out.
November 24, 2021 at 3:01 pm #21355BrownsFan4LifeParticipantIt a little late to sit him now. He should have been sitting the last 3 weeks in prep for being healthy in ratsville.
That is really only part of the problem though.
November 24, 2021 at 2:59 pm #21354BrownsFan4LifeParticipantLavar was awful and the lack of replays during the game was pathetic. Ive seen better announcers and replays watching HS football.
November 12, 2021 at 2:41 pm #21309BrownsFan4LifeParticipantWhen I see Teller play, I think of pancakes.
November 12, 2021 at 2:38 pm #21307BrownsFan4LifeParticipantKeeping the OL together is a great move because sooner or later we are going to start losing players because we can’t keep them all.
November 12, 2021 at 2:37 pm #21306BrownsFan4LifeParticipantThe only question I have is was OBJ open more than the number of passes he dropped.
November 9, 2021 at 10:18 pm #21296BrownsFan4LifeParticipantGlad we resigned him. Key part of our OL.
November 9, 2021 at 10:10 pm #21295BrownsFan4LifeParticipantLast time we had no Chubb and no Hunt, D’Ernest Johnson rushed for 146 yards (against the Broncos). I am not sure we can expect lightning in a bottle for a second time but it definitely is possible.
There is also the possibility that Chubb and Felton could both play Sunday. They just need 2 negative tests taken 24 hours apart.
October 21, 2021 at 8:44 pm #21204BrownsFan4LifeParticipantBaker isn’t going to be healthy for the rest of the year. The only question is how much pain can he play with. Good move to start Keenum
October 21, 2021 at 8:42 pm #21203BrownsFan4LifeParticipantOBJ has been disappointing. He is playing with an injured shoulder but it is hurting us.
Entire 3rd down defense and a lot of other downs just plain sucks. Joe Woods needs to figure it out or he won’t be here at seasons end.
October 3, 2021 at 5:15 pm #21139BrownsFan4LifeParticipantCongrats on the job and don’t be a stranger. Take a few minutes to pop in and say something “shooterlike”. LOL
October 3, 2021 at 5:14 pm #21138BrownsFan4LifeParticipantHow is a bad season by the Indians a given when they just had their first losing season since 2012. You talk about the Steelers being bad and still somehow insult the Indians. Pretty typical.

August 1, 2021 at 3:41 pm #21006BrownsFan4LifeParticipantI think it is a good deal for both sides. It gets done before the season starts, gives Chubb $30,000,000 guaranteed and protects him against injury.
The Browns now have him under contract for the next 4 years and shows they are serious about keeping our core together. This also tells the idi…, I mean fans who think the front office is all about analytics that it really isn’t the case. Analytics is just another tool in the toolbox.
The next extension should be Wyatt Teller who is going into the last year of his contract.
July 28, 2021 at 9:36 am #20999BrownsFan4LifeParticipantI don’t care whether he was vaccinated or not. That is his choice. I just hope there isn’t a major outbreak and he doesn’t get too sick from it.

So this ship has sailed.

Wide receivers (6)
Offensive linemen (9)
Defensive linemen (8)
Linebackers (6)
Defensive backs (10)
Specialists (3)It will be an interesting offseason and preseason. There are definitely some players who will have to fight for a spot. Nick Harris is one player who is all but guaranteed to have a roster spot. He is going into his second year and did a great job when called upon last year.
Redwine and Wilson are definitely on the bubble.
I think keeping 10 DL is too many. This will be the first year that I can remember when there are going to be players getting cut who will definitely be picked up by another team and actually contribute.
May 3, 2021 at 9:04 pm #20966BrownsFan4LifeParticipantMay 3, 2021 at 2:38 pm #20964BrownsFan4LifeParticipantI am guessing that is why they outbid other teams for him. He is the one UDFA I expect to make the team.
Wilson was fantastic in 2019, is a fantastic leader, and plays a position of need for us. A lot of great athletes in every sport at every level had down years in 2020, it was an unprecedented year. Seems like a great kid to take a chance on.
May 3, 2021 at 10:52 am #20962BrownsFan4LifeParticipantKiondre Thomas, cornerback, Kansas State
May 2, 2021 at 8:33 pm #20960BrownsFan4LifeParticipantI would have rather had Wade myself but I do understand drafting an Offensive Tackle because we do need depth and with a lot of contracts coming up in the next year or two, we won’t be able to keep the entire line.
The days of spending money without worrying about the salary cap are over. This is the price of being a good team.
I can’t wait until preseason when everyone starts guessing who will make the team and who won’t. My guess is a few of our draft choices won’t make the team and at least one UDFA will.
