$6 mil/year for a backup QB with a history of success in Stefanski’s offense is a steal. Love this signing.
Oh, and Baker makes $8 mil/year. So, math. Ya know.

That was my initial thought, but I saw an article, don’t remember where, saying the TE market was really down at the moment, and guys like Kelce and Kittle will crush these deals within a year.
It holds up if you look at other TE’s signed today. Jimmy Graham got $16 mil for 2 years, and he’s nowhere near as good as Hooper at this point in his career.

Eric Murray is as good as Burnett if he stays healthy. This, to me, doesnt really weaken the safety position. Doesn’t make me feel any better about it either, though.

We also have right if first refusal, so we can still keep him even if he does sign with another team.

Interestingly, he would have made $16 million over this year and next with the Browns.

And that’s exactly why I bristle at the use of the term Moneyball, as it invokes a complete misunderstanding. It is not a “best-bang-for-your-buck system.” It is just the use of Sabermetrics in Oakland. Oakland simply employed Sabermetrics when no other teams were, which gave them a competitive advantage. They ended up signing cheaper playe…[Read more]

This is the only justification I’ve seen for this move. It’s true the last two years he’s been hurt, but that is after he played the first 71 games of his career. I think his injury history is a little overblown.
Dawg E. Dawg replied to the topic Browns Release Kirksey in the forum Browns Forum 6 years, 1 month ago
The term Moneyball refers to the Oakland A’s revolutionizing their player evaluation and roster building methods, which allowed them to compete with more talented teams, despite not having the most conventionally talented, aka high priced players. They had to do that because they were constrained by their available salary, as is the case with s…[Read more]

Moneyball doesn’t even make sense in the NFL. The salary cap and revenue sharing make it an entirely different landscape from the MLB. Throwing around the term Moneyball automatically negates anything else you say.
Dawg E. Dawg replied to the topic Browns Release Kirksey in the forum Browns Forum 6 years, 1 month ago
You’re probably not wrong, but it’s just ridiculous. We have plenty of money. There’s no reason to cut him.
Dawg E. Dawg replied to the topic Browns Release Kirksey in the forum Browns Forum 6 years, 1 month ago
And if you think the Browns are going to fill a lot of holes via Free Agency, I invite you to look at the state of Salary Cap space across the league. There are a LOT of teams with stupid money to spend.
Free agents are going to be expensive, and most quality players will not reach free agency. It’s always the case, but even more so this y…[Read more]

I’ve lost the little faith I had in the Browns FO.
Creating two holes at LB before free agency even begins. It makes no sense whatsoever.
So now, we need 1-2 safeties, 2 LBs, 1 G, and 2 Tackles. Awesome.

I’m curious on your thoughts about Mekhi Becton.
The extent of my draft “analysis” (used very loosely) is usually a cursory glance through a number of mock drafts and scanning the draftee profiles.
With Becton, it seems like opinions on him are all over the board. Some like him as the best OT in the draft, others, like this, consider him a mid…[Read more]

Cool story. I mean, it’s 100% BS that you made up, but still, cool story.

So Joe Schobert, Luke Keuchly, and Sione Takitaki would all have the same value because they play the same position? That’s the most ludicrous argument I’ve ever heard. And this is all related to The GM, Andrew Berry. Not Depodesta, he doesn’t evaluate players and he doesn’t handle player contracts.
I ALREADY ACKNOWLEDGED THAT. They do…[Read more]

For the love of all things holy, did you read my post at all? Again, you’re talking about asking price. This is not a conversation between the Browns and Joe Scho’s agent about asking price. Get. It. Through. Your. Head. This is a one way report.
Browns: we expect Joe will get between 10-12 million per year.

Soup, this is a very simple concept. I’m sure you can get this if you really try. I’m not talking about asking price. That’s what you’re talking about. This is not a report about asking price. You’re thinking Joe Scho is saying “give me 12 million per” and the Browns are saying no. That’s not the report. That would be an argument about…[Read more]

The report from MKC is that the Browns aren’t willing to meet his MARKET PRICE. Not his ASKING price, his MARKET price.
Which means they fully expect he will get the money he is looking for elsewhere, which means he IS worth what he’s asking for, but the just aren’t willing to pay it.
Contrast this to T.J. Carrie, who is NOT worth what he wa…[Read more]
