Thanks Ice for holding on. This was the best site for us outcasts. You can all blame @shooter for having to deal with me. He’s the one who originally invited me 20 years ago.

I’ve taken to Twitter to rant. It’s been fun ya’ll! I mentally checked out. I used to really truly be emotional invested in games and get mad. Yesterday I just shook my head and knew we’d lose regardless.

It’s been fun everyone. Find me on Twitter @brettmercuri

I’ll leave you all with one final thought.

Cade York? Watch football idiot. Kickers miss all the time.
The browns play 1% defense and that miss is completely irrelevant.
How tf you giving York a goat and not Cooper for getting outmuscled for the ball, or a single DB for not covering Davis? Or Wilson at the end?

York missed an XP. A gimme point. We lost by 1. The missed XP literally changed the score to a loss. We need to look for kickers. Inexcusable miss and completely unacceptable

I did a quick count (I could be off on total TDs a couple either way.) 54/56 on XPs today. 1 of the 2 missed was York. It directly played a massive role in the loss. That’s 96% success rate. That miss by York is completely unacceptable. Not only that – but this is an AFC loss which is HUGE.

The roughing was ticky tac but legit. Helmet to helmet. The refs handed us the game picking up the grounding flag. That was nuts. Jacoby unquestionably committed intentional grounding.

What you’ve seen today is what Jacoby is. We need to lean a lot more on the run game.

I think KS was hand cuffed to Baker. And was like. You wanna see what is and is not . Here ya go. 9 sacks later. Yup thats the guy Dorsey passed over Allen.
I think KS wants a QB he can work with.
I am fine with the front office and couching staff staying in place.
Maybe KS wants Rodgers or Watson…..? Maybe Carr…?

They blocked Watt 1 on 1 with a 4th round rookie. I couldn’t imagine Derek Anderson part 2 throwing to these guys. He was awful until they gave him Diggs.

We handed the ball off 16 (?) times against the 2nd worst rush D in the NFL. Stefanski sabotaged the game on purpose. Aside from the missed read there were 7 dropped passes. (Unless they rightfully make Hoopers int into a fumble considering he took 3 steps with the ball- then it would be 6).

1:20 left and Kitchens Jr uses a timeout when he needs 3 to get the ball back.

I don’t buy all that Soup. Stefanski has had an insane number of opportunities to bench Mayfield this year, and he’s insisted every time that Baker is the QB. Coaches don’t do that for players they hate.

When their goal is to get them out they do. There’s no other reason for him to pull what he did yesterda. Garrett has spoken up, Mayfield spoke up Johnson spoke up- he lost the team and he’s vengeful.

Stefanski purposely put that game plan out there to willfully destroy Mayfield. Aaron Rodgers literally said “it looks like he’s trying to put him in a bad spot.”

I don’t believe that. If he truly HATES Baker he can use any of a thousand excuses to let him go. He doesn’t have to willfully lose games and put his players in bad positions. I think this is more of a guy who had his ego stroked too much and tries to think himself out of situations instead of letting his players do what they do best.

Oh he did it. You touched on it earlier. Stefanski ego is huge and he’s done nothing to have that ego.

    1. The reason Stefanski retained playcalling is because AVP completely outshined him with the playoff win.

    2. Berry wants to give Mayfield one more year knowing there’s no available upgrade and with our putrid receivers we can’t use draft capital on a QB

    3. Stefanski hates Mayfield because Mayfield has no respect for Stefanski so by sabotaging him he helps push Baker out. It’s the same thing Haley did thinking Dorsey would name him head coach. Remember I live in Pittsburgh. I know guys who know the organization. Haley called one of the guys and said “I’m getting the job” when Hue was canned and he was called back.

Next year is going to be BRUTAL. It’s coach Vs GM again. Hopefully the GM wins

Stefanskis ego cost us out window.

Yesterday: 48 dropbacks and 19 runs

Previous 5 game average with Mayfield/Stefanski 38 drop backs and 22 runs.

He doesn’t run a “run first” offense in any sense of the word. He lost the team back in October.

His stunt last night means Keenum or our first round pick will be the starting QB next year with a new HC in 2023

Like it or not, this franchise has a huge decision to make regarding Baker and the sooner we make it the better it is for us. IMO worst case scenario is that we let him go and he turns into a HOFer like Drew Brees. 2nd worst case scenario is we waste money signing him long term and he turns into hot garbage.

He’s signed next year. We have to see what comes available. We have one of the worst WR rooms in the NFL. Wilson isn’t waiving his no trade to come here and give up multiple first rounders isn’t an option that helps us.

If Baker wasn’t young and “invincible “ he’d shut it down and get the surgery this week. Winning these last 2 games does nothing but hurt draft position. It has zero effect on next year. My only hope next year is first game is against NFC team so our 0-1 start won’t hurt as bad. It’ll be last year of Stefanski and his horrible attempt at OC. Hopefully new HC in 2023 won’t be allowed to call his own plays.

Because of the cap and 5th year option. There’s absolutely no reason to extend him. Bills made a huge mistake. Baltimore still hasn’t signed Lamar to an extension either.

His injuries have completely effected him, but what’s effected him more is Stefanski not trusting his staff and still having no clue how to coach.

We handed the ball off 23 times and dropped back to pass 43 with a broken QB off his game. 23 hand offs for 200 yards. Never let a baseball guy make football decisions.

While it’s only a 2 game stint, this team responds far better to Priefer as coach and AVP calling plays.

Fire Stefanski elevate Priefer leave everything by else in tact and he hires a ST coach.

This whole season is on Stefanski. Unfortunately they won’t do the right thing and he’s our coach until they fire him in 2023.

As for Baker, he’s our QB next year barring a guy like Derek Carr getting cut. There’s no upgrades that are available at all.

We have a bottom 5 WR room. The route running is horrific. Aikman twice questioned “I don’t know how they are coached…” Warner said the same thing in one of his vids.

Baker missed some easy throws, WR ran some piss poor routes in others and when he made the big time throw – DPJ dropped it at the 5.

The worst part of this is Baker out. When Stefanski tested I thought “yes, now AVP can show he’s better than Stefanski for the 2nd time and maybe they’ll finally give him the job.” Then Baker got hurt. Defense needs some key takeaways and our kicker hopefully learned how to kick. We will need one of those 40 rush attempt games eating the clock all game ala Belichick beating the Bills.

The routes appeared to all be really short conservative routes. I think that’s his issue.

I totally disagree with that! He had quite a few deep throws, including
two that got PI penalties IIRC.

Sorry, my reference is too conservative in half 2. All the shots were taken in half 1. He flipped plans to prevent offense and prevent defense.

Just from the eyeball test it APPEARED to me that we blitzed more often yesterday than in the first game, especially after Lamar exited the game. Maybe someone can check the stats on that.
Soup I’m surprised you’re taking Baker’s side on this. When he complains about conservative playcalling in the 2nd half he’s complaining that we ran the ball too much. Running the ball too much gives you a woody.

I agree completely. The pump fake on the screen pass where he ultimately ended up fumbling stood out to me the most. The play was there, years 1-3 Baker let’s it rip, but he pulled it down.
I think his injuries have hurt his accuracy, and now he doesn’t have confidence in himself to make throws he used to make without thinking. I still think he can be the guy going forward, I just don’t know that we’re going to see it this year anymore.

Hunt doesn’t run a clean route and hits the OL. Watch the play from behind and watch Hunt. Baker MUST hold onto the ball – however there’s no one to throw to bc Hunt timing got thrown off so he had no choice. Here’s Kurt Warners breakdown of half 1.

1st in the NFL in presnap penalties
4th in the NFL in penalties. Would still be second but for some reason Hocculi has a job. The top 2 are Dallas and alas Vegas who each amassed 14 on Thanksgiving so Hocculi could see himself on TV.

First thing Gregg Williams did as coach was clean up penalties. Captain Harvard is too worried about his ego and proving to people he’s a better playcaller than the guy he hired who put up 41 offensive points in a playoff game. Therefore he clearly ignores the penalties.

Kicker keeps hooking the ball. His kicking motion is off and should’ve been corrected.

The receivers can’t get open. When they do they can’t catch. Catching is a fundamental. There sheer amount of drops and complete lack of at least one great catch a game shows they don’t bother practicing the fundamentals.

All Captain Harvard cares about is proving to people he’s the smartest one in the room when it’s evident he’s the dumbest in terms of football.

He cemented himself to become a WR coach somewhere today via refusing to give up his awful play calling.

The sooner Haslam fires baseball guy and his best pal Captain Harvard the sooner we can heal.

FYI there’s a still of the 3rd and 7 with 1:10 left in the half. 5 WR route. 0 past the sticks. Yep. 2 guys on the left 3 yards way and 2 guys on the right 3 yards away (all bunched of course bc that’s what Captain Harvard does) and 1 guy in the middle 1/2 yard from the line.

He’s a fucking useless moron. We desperately need a defensive head coach that is not allowed to call plays in any capacity.

We could be year 2 into Saleh who has won 3 games having to deal with Zach Wilson as a QB

Kevin Stefanski is the worst coach in the history of the Browns. All the talent and zero ability. 6 more drops tonight because they ignore drops in practice. More dumb penalties because they ignore them in practice. More missed kicks because they ignore them in practice. More horrid play calling because captain Harvard believes he’s the smartest person in the room. Your team takes on the personality of your coach. Sloppy trash.

I also think Chubb was not 100% this week. He was pulled at some pretty inopportune times to take an extended breather. DeEarnest Johnson had a great game as a 1 time starter, but he’s not a replacement for Chubb. Luckily it looks like we’re getting Hunt back this week.
None of us know all the details about what Mayfield is fighting through but we do know that it’s a lot and it is definitely affecting his play. He can talk tough but having a broken humorous even in his non-throwing arm is gonna have a big effect on him. He’s tough, he’s fighting. At some point they made need to hide his helmet.

Correct, however Johnson only got 5 attempts. Absolutely silly sin that weather. To follow Det TD busy throwing 3 times was next level stupid.

I wanted Josh Allen and Dk metcalf instead of Baker and Odell.
    Fuck you Dorsey

For the 80th time Allen would be out of the NFL. He could barely handle 2 years without Diggs. This year they are 6-3 in spite of him. The defense is off the charts crazy.

    Bills: 24 takeaways 9 games
Browns: 8 takeaways 10 games. Even when we had an outside shot after the lone stop D had last week, our punt returner was in the wrong position and gave up 21 yards of FP.

If anything you should want to strangle Dorsey for not keeping Williams as HC after finishing 5-3.

He clearly wanted out, but I’ve read nothing about the usual “diva player wants out of town” behavior regarding Odell, no threatening to go home, causing trouble behind the scenes, getting in coaches faces or pulling some bullshit on the field.

I’m pretty sure a lot of that nonsense happened but all behind the scenes. There were some rumblings from anonymous players that he was a distraction in the locker room. The big clue is that Stefanski told everyone at a team meeting that OBJ was no longer a part of the team a full week before he was dropped; something big must’ve happened right after that last game that prompted that. I’m sure it wasn’t a nice discussion where OBJ said ‘I’d rather be somewhere else so can we work on that please?’
Basically he followed the diva WR recipe for getting released without publicly being a dick.

Jay Glazer is now claiming when OBJ got traded to Cleveland he told Glazer that he wants to be in LA.

Devils advocate: Why is it the coach of the year and not the injured QB?

I’ll answer that with Josh Allen:

    Buffalo Bills defense/ 9 games 24 takeaways.

    Cleveland Browns defense/ 10 games 8 takeaways

Once again Stefanski gave up on the run like he always does. He should NEVER CALL THE PLAYS.

He should’ve fired Woods last year. Did you catch that when we had them on their own one Woods was in DIME DEFENSE?!?!?

This is what happens when your head coach isn’t actually a head coach.

    Back to Mayfield.

2/3 on the first drive – then Njoku DROPPED a TD. Next pass was bad then threw a TD. (Do we even need to mention sticking a fucking FB at QB on 1st and goal from the 2?)

Next drive shotgun no threat of run typical moron Stefanski. DPJ drops a 2nd down pass sticking us in 3rd and 9. Terrible pass then picked off. Did you notice that there were 2 Browns in the area of the pick? Stefanski route combos are trash. Our receivers have a lot of separation problems. I think we used PA roll out once. That seems to have disappeared from the playbook.

Stefanski is an awful play caller. AVP hangs 48 on Steelers and Captain Ego comes and immediately takes it back to score 17 because AVP is better at it (hint: the OC spends more time with the O than the HC).

Two moves can help him salvage it:

    1. Fire Woods. Today. Not bye week, not end of year but TODAY.

    2. Immediately hand over playcalling to AVP

Last time we had no Chubb and no Hunt, D’Ernest Johnson rushed for 146 yards (against the Broncos). I am not sure we can expect lightning in a bottle for a second time but it definitely is possible.
There is also the possibility that Chubb and Felton could both play Sunday. They just need 2 negative tests taken 24 hours apart.

Baker’s accuracy definitely looks off, and the shoulder seems like the most obvious culprit. It’s less decision making (although he missed that one easy read on a third down to the running back in the flat) and more that his passes are a foot or two off.
That pass rush, though. We’re getting consistent pressure, this week against a great offensive line, and we don’t even have to blitz to do it.

Baker overthinking it with OBJ in the game. We trade him and things get normal again. There’s some weird mental block. Are the coaches talking about the need to get OBJ the ball too much instead of dictated by coverage? I feel like most routes overall are garbage since OBJ came back. Designed to get it to him solely.

He does, but he actually played well last week. The fumble was Chubb. The muffed punt was on Gillan. I’m not faulting Baker for the pick because it was a fluke thing. Wasn’t a bad decision or a bad throw, just an absolute fluke shoe string grab that moved the ball off target.

Those 3 and outs are on in the 4th are on KS and Baker for sure though.

After Mahomes closes his eyes and throws a moonshot for a 1 play 75 yard TD at home, the ONLY acceptable thing to do when you get the ball back is run it and slow the crowd down. Stefanski should not be calling plays. He always makes awful decisions and panics fast in key spots.

Totally agree soup. I watch Sunday night football where they had guys undercutting the tight ends. Made a huge difference.
Hill is about impossible to cover. One of the games best. He has a sense to the ball that makes him unreal.
It will really it pretty dumb that commentators like Roma are like “who makes that throw”. It was a garbage throw. Literally through a hail Mary and the Browns player never turned.

Yep. Have to have more awareness, the moment Mahomes leaves the pocket he needs to push Hill down as it’s no longer PI until he throws
