I don’t care about the salaries. Every player you mentioned could be resigned at their “value” and added to Carrie and it wouldn’t make a dent in the cap room.
If Joe Woods comes and says “Carrie is a skilled DB, but his skill set is different than what will be utilized in my defense “ then I wouldn’t bat an eye at it. But this is straight up moneyball

TJ Carries $8 m salary is not inhibiting any deal with the cap room we have. That’s like saying Jeff Bezos will go broke buying a gumball

So we shouldn’t judge this as a bad OR good move until we see how it turns up, right? Instead of flipping out at releasing an overpaid player? What if that money allows us to sign a high quality guard for 4 years, would that be a win? I think it could be.

It’s a new defense. Using the salary cap as justification when you aren’t using all of it this year is nonsense. Meaningless.
You’re saying he’s not with the money yet you have no idea who is replacing him and if that person will be as good. It’s that simple. If they replace with someone the same or better than it’s a win, but if they are worse then what?

Carrie is an above-average nickel CB but at $8mil he’s grossly overpaid. We could pay $3m-$4m for a good nickel CB and have $4m extra cap room to help us sign a safety or tackle.

We have the cap room. We have 3 corners. You need 4. Why do you care what he’s currently paid? What impact does that have?
Moneyball is exactly what Depodesta is known for. Your point on his pay would be far more valid if we were topping the cap

For the last 5 years at least we’ve sucked with having $50 million on cap left. His $8 million in one year is money ball talking. These guys are so focused on big cap room that they ignore everything else. His $8 million is meaningless. Groom a new guy and let him go the following year. Massive cap room doesn’t = wins.

Saw someone on a website call him “Incompletrius Harris” and it was hilarious.
It was me. On this website. Right now.

Excel spreadsheet sheets got us Corey Coleman. He didn’t rank well when baseball guy hit “sort” so he’s gone

TJ Carrie is most surprising to me. He was a very reliable backup/nickel CB and still had 2 years left on his deal. The rest would have had difficulty making next year’s roster.

Offensive Tackle: It’s been speculated that the Browns will go after a free agent left tackle and draft a right tackle high. I took the liberty of looking at the free agent list, and the list is pretty short. The Colts Anthony Castonzo is the highest rated free agent left tackle, and he’s 32 years old. Signing a free agent player that old doesn’t…[Read more]
soup replied to the topic Myles Garrett “Rudolph called me a stupid N word” in the forum Browns Forum 6 years, 2 months ago
The most disturbing portion of this is the more I’ve read:
The league did NOT use audio in their investigation. They used camera angles and on field witnesses.
That’s like investigating a robbery of an unmasked guy staring into an HD camera and not looking at the video
Ice replied to the topic Myles Garrett “Rudolph called me a stupid N word” in the forum Browns Forum 6 years, 2 months ago
That statement was clearly written by a lawyer with the goal of completely avoiding saying whether the slur was said or not. IMO the NFL is playing it smart here because if they release the audio and prove one of the players right, the one who is proven wrong will be a pariah for the rest of their life. It will also be a black eye on the sport…[Read more]

On Outside the Lines. Here’s the most important part of the linked article which is absolute proof Rudolph said it:
“ NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy said the league ’found no such evidence’ that a racial slur was used, and a league source told cleveland.com that the NFL had no recorded on-field audio in making that determination.”
The NFL has f…[Read more]

I think perhaps what Soup meant by ‘football guys’ is ‘good at their job football guys’.

You’d have to start with Dwight Clark on as I’m referring to 1999 on. But yes, you are right.
We’ve sucked for so long it feels like we’ve been playing croquet instead

As expected. We Browns fans know that Myles is a great guy off the field. He lost control just one time. I’m convinced it’ll never happen again.

Berry is absolutely a football guy. Not only has football been his career since he graduated college, he was also a division 2 college football player and a pretty good one.
Funny all the people saying Podesta isn’t a football guy, he also played college football.
