Everyone here knows that “sinking ship” feeling whenever we start the season with hope — and by game 4 we’re already looking forward to the draft. This isn’t quite that scenario.
Stefanski is a great play caller…when he’s prepared against a team. There’s times I’ve seen him call a masterpiece, and then there’s the Texans wildcard game last year. He’s won more than he’s lost, so for this team that’s shooting well above par. I just feel like I barely know the guy.
Out strength and conditioning coaches need to be sent to Soviet Russia to train with Ivan Drago or something. Every damn year we’re subjected to soft-tissue injuries that plague the team all season. Last season was so unbelievable (on so many levels) that they really should have considered this in the off-season. This will likely cost us.
Andrew Berry is a salary cap genius, but he’s just average when it comes to drafting players, especially receivers. My opinion is probably colored here by the fact that we haven’t had a first-round pick for the last three seasons but…well, we really haven’t had many impact players outside of JOK for the last couple of years through the draft. Maybe once we actually have some picks and players again, my tune will change.
You’ll struggle to convince me that the Watson trade was worth it. Texans completely fleeced us there. And it stinks of Haslam’s involvement (remember Manziel). Not to mention how we botched everything with Baker and essentially got nothing for him. I know, it’s time to move forward but damn…I really thought we’d see that man retire here. Dude is a good player and a class act, and I’ll always wish him success (unless he’s playing against Cleveland).
This team is a rollercoaster.
September 16, 2024 at 12:08 pm #21916DawgPoundDudeParticipantI support this team but…Watson was another bad call by Haslam. Unfortunate, because it’s likely going to end with a few folks getting fired.
I was reading yesterday that there was supposedly some clause in his contract that says CLE can recoup some money out of this mess if he’s convicted–but turns out there’s nothing like that in there. Which means that no matter what, we’re on the hook. They need Watson to play about twice as good as he did yesterday for the remainder of his contract to actually get their moneys worth from him. Fat chance.
I miss Baker.
June 24, 2024 at 10:25 am #21909DawgPoundDudeParticipantDude abides
Man, I keep looking at your avatar and thinking “Damn, I’m so glad weed is legal here”.
Also yeah, I see no reason not to discuss football stuff here. It’s free real estate, we should use it. Might even make new threads and stuff.
April 23, 2024 at 3:28 pm #21903DawgPoundDudeParticipantThis site is the best cockroach ever! I wonder how long Ice could have gotten away with not paying rent…but fine by me. I’ll just keep checking on the place until I can’t lol.
September 13, 2023 at 11:45 am #21863DawgPoundDudeParticipantDude that defense was lights out. I might go as far as to say it’s the best I’ve seen for this team since ’99. Still, I’ve been wrong before (like one other time) so let’s see how we do in Shitsbirgh before I say something I regret.
September 7, 2023 at 3:39 pm #21859DawgPoundDudeParticipant…I hate to say it, but I’m stuck in a fuckin’ loop between this team and this site. That and…it’s really, really difficult to not be excited about this team this year. Why do I (and let’s face it, probably *we*) do this every year? It’s like punching myself in the dick and expecting it to finally not hurt.
For the 25th or so time, I say this…it’s gonna be different this year!
August 14, 2023 at 8:47 am #21855DawgPoundDudeParticipantDTR should absolutely be in the discussion for backup to Watson. So far he’s outplayed everyone, except maybe Watson’s limited showing.
It’s hard to believe this dude fell to us in the fifth round!
August 4, 2023 at 2:27 pm #21847DawgPoundDudeParticipant(Clearly an overreaction but–hey, I’m a Browns fan.)
August 4, 2023 at 2:26 pm #21845DawgPoundDudeParticipantWell, might as well use it while we got it, boys.
DTR for president!
February 10, 2023 at 4:41 am #21830DawgPoundDudeParticipantDamn Ice, I wonder how long this site would have lasted if you’d stopped paying on it like 2 years ago?
In other news, Joe Thomas is HOF-bound!
January 17, 2023 at 5:34 pm #21826DawgPoundDudeParticipantFlores is likely looking for bigger ink in Arizona, Mayo is unproven so you never know what to expect. Schwartz is the proven guy here–Id prefer Flores really, but either would be loads better than what we saw this season.
January 11, 2023 at 2:19 am #21820DawgPoundDudeParticipantI kinda hope he says someone else can have it or run it… Hate to see it die.
Congratulations! BFT is now property of DTB until time stops. Or this site. I’m taking bets on which ends first.
December 27, 2022 at 3:27 am #21814DawgPoundDudeParticipantMan, maybe we should wager how long this site lasts into 2023…?!
December 7, 2022 at 7:48 am #21810DawgPoundDudeParticipantDeion Sanders makes it back to the NFL within five years, yes or no?
I’m asking because this is the only football question I have that matters in any way to me, and I have no idea why. Maybe just to see who keeps checking the site to see if it’s dead yet.
November 10, 2022 at 9:06 am #21797DawgPoundDudeParticipantPsst! We uh…we don’t seem to be gone, dudes.
October 29, 2022 at 1:33 pm #21788DawgPoundDudeParticipantI will miss all you guys. We had a lot of laughs. From the Enviable Cockpit, to “Girls in the stands next to me asked me why I’m not playing”, to BOWWWLDEOGSSSISCOMINGGGGGGGG.
This place deserves a better sendoff than I’ve given it.Then we’ve given it, my friend. You may have foot the bill here, but it was every one of us greasing the gears, both here and at Dawgbones–but hell at least we got a warning things were wrapping up this time!
I don’t do much social media outside of Discord. The Dirt#4613 if you ever decide to go looking, especially if you want to kick ass on some games (even hard to find cool MMO games).
But you said it Ice…I’m treating football much like everything else. If the shit stops making sense, stop trying to make it make sense. Move on to the things that do.
“Save the planet?! What kind of arrogant shit is that? We haven’t even figured out how to save ourselves yet!”
“The planet is fine. The people are fucked.”
-George CarlinOctober 16, 2022 at 9:08 am #21763DawgPoundDudeParticipantSo, I’ve been keeping tabs on the site without posting for…what, 3-4 years now? I usually don’t find topics worth discussing anymore, as my own interest in the team has really declined the last few years. But there are some great memories, especially in the ugliest of times with you guys.
Dune. Ice. Shooter. Soup. BF4L. Dawson (yeah you’re still HIM). MDP. DS. And God help me, even Tree. And forgive me if I’ve missed anyone (it’s been a while)…we’ve gone through many a bad season, many a draft together. This place (and more so Dawgbones) never once shied from the theme it was meant to imply–a bunch of fellas talking sports, preferably over beer. Maybe have to shove some tables outta the way for Dawson and DS to duke it out but, things always ended up alright.
Still, something gets lost at the end of this month. Something that has been a constant in my life since…2005?
You guys. Seeing shit like this. All the unique experiences (like that faux Phil Savage ghostwriter). The “hero of the day” Brady Quinn post that I wish could have been recovered before Dawgbones went down…your names, these antics, they’re all etched into my soul, guys.
Jason, thanks again for giving Dawgbones a second life. Shooter, thanks for the awesome YouTube stuff for The Barking Lot. Soup, thanks for being the pessimistic lovable bastard who was far too correct for his own good. And the rest of you…damn, it’s just not gonna feel the same to see your one of a kind views.
This is really it. It’s been a real honor, guys. Thank you.
August 23, 2019 at 8:17 pm #16465DawgPoundDudeParticipantSoup, start saying someone needs fired, please.
August 17, 2019 at 4:42 pm #16300DawgPoundDudeParticipantLMAO…well, if you need a link, I’ll throw one in the chat.
August 9, 2019 at 3:05 pm #16281DawgPoundDudeParticipantI was astounded with the difference between snap to pass from Baker to the other guys. Baker looks like Tom Brady and the other guys look like Charlie Frye. On those 3 step drops it is ALWAYS step-step-step-FIRE. He trusts his WR’s to catch it.
If Sheehy-Guiseppi makes the team, is he the best story in the league this year?I agree with this entire paragraph. And yes, kid has one hell of a tale, don’t he? I’d love to see him signed. As a returner…he doesn’t suck. Made 2 catches last night as well.
Still, this is a crowded WR room. Numbers may send him packing, as much as I’d like to see him stay.
August 8, 2019 at 5:22 pm #16266DawgPoundDudeParticipantStill stand by it. He would’ve exploded in our offense:
* Since entering the NFL in 2015, he leads all RB with 2,170 receiving yards
* Third in RB receptions since 2015 with 235
* Career rushing average of 4.3 on 299 attemptsWhile it’s hard to dispute the numbers, think about the receivers we’ve had in that time period. With that said, I dispute none of this…he would have thrived- IF he wanted to be here. After signing Hunt, that was pretty much that. Take it as you will. A 4th for a guy who wanted to be gone anyways is a hell of a deal, and a third would be a downright theft of a draft pick.
Considering how it all played out before today, this was the best-case scenario for everyone.
August 8, 2019 at 2:08 pm #16262DawgPoundDudeParticipantWell, no more calls of “DOOOOOOOOOK” (sorry, Ice).
Still, that’s…a pretty good deal for a player that publicly said he didn’t want to be with the team anymore. He’ll be missed, but by all reports, our backfield is going to be just fine without him, and he’s gonna do fine in Houston. And we got good value for him. There’s really nothing bad about any of this.
Godspeed, Duke.
August 5, 2019 at 3:24 pm #16248DawgPoundDudeParticipantRemember that time Soup annoyed and baited Phil Savage into “fuck you go root for Buffalo”?
This will be much, much worse.
For Colin.Don’t worry, the Indians did it for you.
"I just don’t like the idea of my franchise quarterback spending time at a baseball game. I mean, what are you doing, @bakermayfield? You don’t see guys like Aaron Rodgers shotgunning beers. Just not a good look. Go watch some film." – @ColinCowherd (probably)
Legend. https://t.co/IUCW1Kp4s3
— Cleveland Guardians (@CleGuardians) August 4, 2019
April 29, 2019 at 8:48 pm #16064DawgPoundDudeParticipantI’m surprised Soup hasn’t been here doing, you know, Soup stuff. Fire this immediately, worst that in history…I guess since there isn’t much negativity, he doesn’t have much to contribute.
Just a theory, mind.
April 22, 2019 at 8:43 pm #15977DawgPoundDudeParticipantAlright, this thread made me feel nostalgic.
Now, I didn’t go through these gems, but I went allllll the way back to page 84 and read through a good bit of all the titles. I wonder if the folks who made these even remember making them.
Alright, that’s all I’m going through for now. I advise everyone to take a trip down memory lane and go through the old threads. Seeing some of the shit we posted made me crack a smile, for sure.
January 24, 2019 at 4:56 pm #15278DawgPoundDudeParticipantYa know, I was pretty stoked when we hired Hue.
Then…well we know how that ended up going. So, judgement will be reserved until we get some results, one way or another.
That said, I love how Dorsey has handled this team to this point. I only hope that Haslam leaves him the fuck alone so this team can hopefully flourish.
December 14, 2018 at 6:27 pm #14785DawgPoundDudeParticipantI hate this thread.
I hate you for bringing this thread back.
December 11, 2018 at 9:37 am #14724DawgPoundDudeParticipantWell you know how it is…it’s all about extremes. There is no such thing as middle ground for Soup. If our defense got shredded by Joe Montana, doing the same that he did with every other defense in the league, Williams should be fired. Or if we couldn’t stop Barry Sanders from getting 100+ all-purpose yards, it’s completely inexcusable. Or if Schobert misses a tackle, it’s 100% on the coach.
Not because of how good or bad a player is.
November 19, 2018 at 8:09 am #14404DawgPoundDudeParticipantI admit, this would be interesting.
If in fact Bruce Arians interviews for the #Browns job I can see Freddie Kitchens staying at OC and Todd Bowles at DC (if fired by Jets)
— Dave Zastudil (@zasty9) November 19, 2018
November 18, 2018 at 9:10 pm #14402DawgPoundDudeParticipantBad coach, great PR.
Would be great to have her here in some capacity that plays to her strengths.
November 13, 2018 at 11:14 am #14373DawgPoundDudeParticipantAlso does anyone have a gif of Matty Ryan throwing a hissy fit after he failed on 4th down? That was quality.
Best I could find. Still…
November 13, 2018 at 11:09 am #14372DawgPoundDudeParticipantAlright, this was funny.
— Randalltime (@RandallTime) November 13, 2018
November 13, 2018 at 10:14 am #14365DawgPoundDudeParticipantYou know, it’s possible Lewis is an evil genius…maybe he sent Hue here to put us in the toilet for the next 5 years, only to get railroaded when Haslam a) hired Dorsey who b) drafted Mayfield. Being that Taylor fucked up and got concussed, that ended the charade that Mayfield was to stay on the bench, which exposed Hue’s attempt at sabotaging another game. Maybe Haslam finally realized what Hue and Haley (the Steelers plant) were up to, and fired both of their asses.
Mystery fucking solved.
November 12, 2018 at 7:58 pm #14345DawgPoundDudeParticipantBecause he’s basically a Browns informant. And his seat isn’t even cold yet.
Just a dick move.
November 12, 2018 at 12:36 pm #14334DawgPoundDudeParticipantHere’s the sound byte with some dramatic NFL music. First time I ever wanted to go upside Jim’s head.
“CHUBBA WUBBA HUBB!”
@NickChubb21's 92-yard run + Jim Donovan's call 😂 https://t.co/rzfKcpvK1S
— Cleveland Browns (@Browns) November 12, 2018
November 12, 2018 at 10:28 am #14314DawgPoundDudeParticipantGuys, this is a fake post, DS’s account got hacked.
Not a single Buckeye in a DS mock draft? Rookie mistake faux DS. Nobody’s buying what you’re selling. This…I laughed at this. Loudly.
November 11, 2018 at 4:42 pm #14286DawgPoundDudeParticipantGame ball to the defensive QB…you can tell this team plays much smarter when Joe Schobert is in the game. Definitely a game ball.
TJ Carrie was in shutdown mode. Game ball for him, too.
Kitchens had a hell of a game plan, and minus the silly high school trick play that failed miserably (and gave ATL a touchdown), he called a hell of a game. Game ball goes to anti-Haley.
Jimmy Haslam gets one for firing Hue and Haley. Maybe two.
And Baker Mayfield gets a game ball for leading this team the way he does. John Dorsey does too for being smart enough to take him first overall.
November 8, 2018 at 10:03 pm #14280DawgPoundDudeParticipant“Wilford Brimley on Suckabeetus”
Yeahhhhh, I’d be all for it except that it’d look like a rip-off. Day late, dollar short my friend.
November 7, 2018 at 8:19 pm #14272DawgPoundDudeParticipantSoup, you worry too much.
Cabot usually gets it right. At least, I tend to believe her sources more than national media.
November 7, 2018 at 10:34 am #14264DawgPoundDudeParticipantAt this point, why not? Proven coach who has a real interest to coach up Mayfield. Plus, it’s not like we keep coaches any more than 3 years, so what does it matter? Not to mention that everyone here (me included) thought Hue Jackson was a great hire before the 2016 season, so I’m going against the grain on this one, since everyone else is against it.
November 5, 2018 at 7:19 pm #14244DawgPoundDudeParticipantBandit. Also how dare you mention Marty McFly with those men.
Fuck that, Marty belongs there.
Is it the Delorean that flies? If so, Marty, hands down. Also true if he can get it to 88 MPH at any point.
In terms of “coolness” carrying them to Vegas, gotta go Bandit here.
November 4, 2018 at 4:04 pm #14192DawgPoundDudeParticipantHe was sick Friday too.
October 29, 2018 at 1:10 pm #14025DawgPoundDudeParticipantSource: The #Browns have fired OC Todd Haley. More madness.
— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) October 29, 2018
October 29, 2018 at 1:02 pm #14021DawgPoundDudeParticipantLooking like Al Saunders is going to be interim. Names that have come up in the college ranks are Lincoln Riley (of course) and Matt Campbell from Iowa State (a local boy).
Not gonna say I didn’t want to see this pan out for Hue, but it’s been clear that he isn’t a very good head coach. That said, this vacancy sucks, both because our season effectively ends, but more importantly, who’s going to want to run a team that fires coaches as much as quarterbacks?
This team has talent, but we need the right guy to do something with it. Why the hell can’t we get that right?
October 29, 2018 at 12:12 pm #14017DawgPoundDudeParticipantDamn, now Dude is gonna have to change his signature.
October 29, 2018 at 11:42 am #14008DawgPoundDudeParticipantWell, here’s a nice little caveat to fuel the fire…
Browns are +11 in turnover margin with a 2-5-1 record thru 8 weeks.
Since 2006: 38 teams w +8 turnover margin or better thru 8 wks, none had a losing record…
Since 1975: 71 teams w +11 turnover margin or better thru 8 wks, none had a losing record…
except the 2018 Browns.
— Warren Sharp (@SharpFootball) October 29, 2018
October 28, 2018 at 10:08 pm #13997DawgPoundDudeParticipantRemember the Jets game? Even the Raiders game? Everything was so instinctual. And you can tell that sometimes he reverts to that and good shit tends to happen. But lately you can see him…thinking. Which means a lot more is ending up on his plate.
Let that boy run some RPO and let shit rip, and I bet you get a better result. Slide “this and that” into the playbook here and there, and build him into a better player. Make the game fun for him to go out and run.
I have no doubt he’s our guy. All this thinking is killing him, and in these parts, thinking has cost many a starting job.
October 23, 2018 at 9:53 am #13921DawgPoundDudeParticipantSo what do you want us to do about it…go on strike?
Trust me, there’s more than one issue with the team Soup. Being pissed off at Williams isn’t going to get him fired. Maybe if this keeps up by seasons end, he will be.
I’m sure Dorsey is looking at options now, because Williams isn’t the only one that’s gonna have a bootprint on his ass at this rate.
October 19, 2018 at 4:14 pm #13878DawgPoundDudeParticipantMy only concern is what this shows to the other vets. Hyde was far from a bad player.
October 19, 2018 at 8:53 am #13869DawgPoundDudeParticipantI think this loss was going to happen sooner or later, and I’m glad it wasn’t to a division opponent. It showed the weaknesses that need to be addressed by the coaches and adjust to what LA threw at us. Our defense just got embarrassed, but I believe they’ll adjust. Our offense is going to be tested due to being so shorthanded with all these injuries at receiver, but we honestly need to be running the ball more, and with Chubb and Duke getting the ball more often. And of course, it’s dependant upon how well Baker bounces back, if at all.
This next game at TB will be very telling on where we’re really at.
October 19, 2018 at 8:42 am #13868DawgPoundDudeParticipantIt’s only rape if you don’t want it to happen.
So you weren’t raped, you’re just broke now. Got it.
As long as you had a good time.
October 8, 2018 at 7:11 am #13791DawgPoundDudeParticipantBest goat ever, Mike.
My gameball (not that I don’t agree with the others) goes to John Dorsey for building a real team for the first time in years, in his FIRST YEAR HERE. That’s an amazing achievement. Still work to be done, but he’s certainly given us reason to believe he’s up to the task.
Suddenly, it’s fun being a Browns fan again.
September 27, 2018 at 3:31 pm #13732DawgPoundDudeParticipantRT and safety depth. I’d throw in some defensive line rotation depth a really close third.
I honestly believe we have a pretty good team at all levels (assuming Baker keeps kicking ass), just need to cover our asses in case of injury.
September 21, 2018 at 9:22 am #13660DawgPoundDudeParticipantI picked 8+, possibly due to the euphoria I still feel from last night.
Seriously, could we have won this game in any more dramatic fashion?EDIT: Don’t answer that. How many have we LOST in dramatic (and inventive) fashion?
September 21, 2018 at 9:18 am #13657DawgPoundDudeParticipantMy unsung hero is the Rally Possum. https://twitter.com/twitter/status/1042952050580103168
How much you wanna bet that at least 100 people start bringing stuffed roadkill to the home games now?
September 21, 2018 at 9:13 am #13653DawgPoundDudeParticipantAlso this was the 2nd game without Kirksey. His return will improve us quite a bit as well.
This, big time. That’s an iron man mofo who makes plays and leads this defense. They paid him for a very good reason, regardless if he leads the team in any stat. Shame that he couldn’t be on the field last night (he deserves this win more than any current player), because the Jets likely score even less than they did.
Another unsung hero, if you will.
September 21, 2018 at 8:40 am #13645DawgPoundDudeParticipantReminds me of the Back to the Future photo.
September 21, 2018 at 7:12 am #13639DawgPoundDudeParticipantI agree with you there. I had no clue that rule existed…or for that matter, why it exists.
September 21, 2018 at 12:15 am #13628DawgPoundDudeParticipantIf Hue benches Mayfield, he loses this team, followed shortly by his job.
September 20, 2018 at 11:57 pm #13624DawgPoundDudeParticipantI have no idea how to react. I don’t understand. It looks like, for the first time in 2 decades, we have a legitimate QB. 3rd down? Meaningless. Drops? Meaningless. Fucking 17-23 and had 3 drops? What????
Don’t you have a Gameballs and Goats thread to make? That always normalizes you.
